从分子角度来说,橡胶材料分子处在橡胶态,也叫高弹态。而塑料材料分子处于玻璃态。这两者之间的转变叫玻璃化转变,对应的温度叫玻璃化转变温度Tg。
橡胶和塑料都是高分子材料。不同于小分子(比如氯化钠,乙醇,甲烷),高分子的分子链很长,分子量也很大。从几千到几十万都有。当温度低时,高分子整个分子链被冻结,不能运动,此时宏观上表现出来材料就是硬的,大部分塑料材料对应的就是这个状态。当提高温度,这时,因为分子链太长,有些地方分子链之间纠缠的非常厉害,导致主链还是没法运动。但同样有些地方,分子链纠缠的比较松,这部分链段可以在小范围内运动了。微观来看,就是高分子部分地方可运动,整体还不能运动。从宏观来看,材料就变得软了,有弹性。橡胶就是处在这个状态。
这两个状态是可以随着温度而相互转变的。比如,橡胶,室温下是软的有弹性。但放到低温条件下,比如俄罗斯的冬季,部分橡胶也会变硬,从而失去弹性
