Australian football is a much faster game than American footabll. The game play is only stopped for a few seconds at a time. It's one of the great things about the sport in my mind. These guys are constantly running around the field like soccer players. Their legs are like tree trunks!

Also, kicking is the most crucial abilty in Footy. You can run with the ball, but you have to dribble it (bounce) every few steps. You can pass it by punching the ball, but primarliy the players kick to their teammates to advance the ball.

You score by kicking the ball through goal posts (inner two is 6 points and outer posts is 1). You can't run the ball into the goal, but you can hit it through, for one point.

It is full contact like American Football, but they don't wear pads, and the play only stops for a few seconds when you're tackled.

The length of a game of Australian Football can vary from league to league, but is generally around 15 to 25 minutes per quarter. In the AFL, each quarter runs for 20 minutes excluding stoppage time (also known as time on). The clock is stopped on occasions such as the ball going out of bounds, injuries, goals (or behinds) being kicked, or when the umpire is setting the angle of a free kick on goal. Time is kept by two off-field officials, known as timekeepers, who sound the siren at the start and end of each quarter. A typical AFL quarter might run from 27 to 33 minutes, but might run to 35 minutes if, say, a stretcher injury causes undue delay.

In the AFL, the four quarters are each 20 minutes, with the clock stopping when the ball is out of play. This clock is seen by the coaches and on TV. However, the clock at the ground counts up from 0, and does not stop. Therefore, spectators and players never know exactly how much time is left in the game.

Collegiate and professional football games are 60 minutes long, divided into four quarters of 15 minutes each. In high school football, 12 minute quarters are usually played. The clock is stopped frequently, however, so that a typical college or professional game can exceed three hours in duration. The referee controls the game clock and stops the clock after any incomplete pass or any play that ends out of bounds. In addition, each team is allowed 3 timeouts in each half that they may use at their own discretion.

The clock may also be stopped for an officials' time-out, after which, if the clock was running, it is restarted. For example: if there is a question as to whether or not a team has moved the ball far enough for a first down, the officials may bring the chains in to measure. While this measurement is taking place, the officials will signal for a stoppage of the clock. Once the measurement is finished and the ball is spotted, the referee will then signal for the clock to restart. Additional situations where officials may take a time-out are to administer a penalty or for an injured player to be removed from the field.
